Now that you’ve received your child’s test scores, you probably have some questions.

You are invited to attend one of these meetings to learn more about your child’s scores—even if it was a previous year.

Michael Piechowski will speak on “Living With Intensity.” He is the author of ‘Mellow Out’ They Say. If I Only Could. Intensities and Sensitivities of the Young and Bright, and a contributor to the Handbook of Gifted Education and the Encyclopedia of Creativity. Dr. Piechowski, an expert on emotional intelligence, will explain the intense feelings or overexcitabilities that the gifted often exhibit. He worked and collaborated with Dr. Kazimierz Dabrowski. Dr. Piechowski will “give voice to the emotional life of bright young people, to show how their intensities and sensitivities make them more alive, more creative, and more in love with the world and its wonders.”
Additional related sessions with researchers in the field: Dr. Ellen D. Fiedler, recently retired Professor in the Masters of Arts degree program in Gifted Education at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago; Dr. Michele Kane, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Master of Arts program in Gifted Education at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago; and Alena Treat, Assistant Professor in Teacher Education at Eastern Michigan University.

FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT OUR PRESIDENTS: Author, broadcaster, and teacher Richard Lederer will share an array of fascinating facts and patterns about our presidents — their feats, fates, families, foibles, and firsts. Who was our youngest president? Our oldest president? The answers may surprise you.

Dr. Lederer will be signing and inscribing his books throughout the conference. They make great gifts and are excellent resources for gifted students and the language arts classroom.

Richard Lederer is the well-known public television host and author of numerous books designed to help you laugh while you learn. Author of Presidential Trivia, Anguished English: An Anthology of Accidental Assaults Upon the English Language, Comma Sense: A Fundamental Guide to Punctuation, and many other books. His column, “Looking at Language,” is syndicated in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States.
