    Underachievement in Teenage Daughter

My gifted 16-year-old daughter is underachieving and seems to lack confidence regarding her abilities. I want to boost her confidence, but I also want her to have higher expectations for herself. Any ideas?

I think having an adult mentor different from you or her dad might help. You didn't mention her friends or her classmates, but they are very influential at this age. I know when I was 16, my parents weren't necessarily on my list of the people I wanted or needed advice from, but my favorite teachers were, as well as my friends.
